Decarbonisation For Businesses

Cut your carbon emissions, cut your energy costs and move towards your net zero transition with renewable energy sources like solar, battery storage and EV charging built around how your site actually runs.

Commercial benefits of decarbonisation

You’ve seen energy prices spike twice in the last four years and watched unit prices rise and fall unpredictably. Along with the financial risks of this volatility, the UK government has a legally binding net zero target for 2050 with strict regulatory pressures to reduce carbon emissions.

By reducing your dependency on the grid sooner rather than later, you can lock in lower running costs for your energy, become less vulnerable to market changes and create a new revenue source from your own energy production.

Don’t keep paying more for energy, wait too long to try and meet regulatory requirements and start seeing the benefits of decarbonisation in your business.

How Cornerstone turns your net zero plans into action

Our decarbonisation consultancy starts with one question. How is your site using energy now? By understanding your energy situation we can design a bespoke generation, storage and consumption plan that cuts your reliance on the grid and reduces your emissions – moving you closer to net zero – in one go.

We build our net zero and decarbonisation strategies around solar PV, battery storage, EV charging infrastructure and ongoing maintenance. Everything is delivered by a team of qualified solar specialists and electricians, backed by the wider Cornerstone Group, so if your project also needs roofing work, civil engineering or quality assurance, we can handle everything end-to-end.

Our decarbonisation services

  • Commercial solar PV

Commercial solar panels are the foundation of our decarbonisation and net zero consulting. Generating your own electricity on site cuts your grid dependency, hedges your business against energy price swings, and reduces the carbon intensity of every kilowatt hour you use. We size your system to your roof (or ground space), your load profile and expected return on investment.

  • Battery and energy storage

Batteries let you use the renewable energy you generate, whenever you need it. We design battery storage to match how your site runs, so you can shift load away from expensive peak-rate periods and keep operating through unexpected outages. Where it makes commercial sense, we configure your batteries to charge from green tariffs at cheaper off-peak times.

  • Commercial EV charging

Electrifying your fleets and providing visitor EV charging is now a major business consideration driven by company car tax, fleet emission targets, revenue and customer demand. We install commercial EV charging that integrates with your solar generation and battery storage, so your vehicles can run on the power you produce.

  • Solar maintenance and inspections

Our maintenance and inspection services keep your solar system generating renewable energy and performing as it was designed to all year round, as well as supporting regular inspection requirements many insurers now ask for. We can maintain systems we installed and those installed by other contractors.

  • Retrofit and system upgrades

If you’ve already invested in solar but your system is undersized for your needs, ageing or underperforming and no longer helping you hit your decarbonisation targets, we can extend it, integrate battery storage or rebuild it from scratch to match your energy demand. This includes any roof work that needs to be carried out..

How our decarbonisation services work

  • Baseline your energy use

We start with energy audits to understand how your site consumes electricity and identify areas for improvement using your half-hourly consumption data, which most commercial energy suppliers can provide on request. With that data we can map your base load, daytime demands and your peak hours. If half-hourly data isn’t available, we install CT clamp meters on your incoming supply and monitor your load directly.

  • Analysis and design

We turn your real data into your new system design. We design around how much roof space is available, how much generation that could create, how much storage capacity makes sense for your load profile, and how much demand can realistically come from your own supply.

  • Install and integrate

Installation is delivered by qualified solar specialists and electricians, working to the safety and performance standards your insurer will expect. Where your project also needs roofing, civil engineering or wider project management, the Cornerstone Group capability is on the same team, so you only need to work with one contractor.

  • Maintain and monitor

Once your system is live, regular inspection and maintenance protects its performance and supports your energy efficiency. We can also monitor your storage, generation and consumption over time, so you have evidence of the emissions you’re avoiding and costs you’re saving.

Offset your costs with improved renewable energy usage

A new solar installation typically pays back in two to four years through reduced grid consumption, then continues to generate value for the rest of its operational life. At Cornerstone Energy we can structure your project costs into a single financial package, including associated works like a new commercial roof to fit your panels. The monthly costs of your package is offset from day one by your monthly energy cost savings.

By structuring your costs in this way your business can decarbonise and move towards net zero, upgrade ageing infrastructure and start saving from day one.

We can walk through your projected costs and payback time during your initial assessment.

Decarbonisation services across UK commercial and industrial sectors

Cornerstone Energy delivers projects across a range of sectors. How we structure your technology and configure your system depends on how your site uses energy.

  • Manufacturing and industrial sites, where high overnight case loads often make battery storage and time-of-use tariffs a strong fit alongside solar panels.

  • Commercial offices, where daytime demand maps closely to solar generation systems.

  • Education estates, where decarbonisation supports public sector net zero targets and helps protect budgets against energy price rises.

  • Healthcare facilities, including hospitals and healthcare manufacturers, where energy efficiency and resilience matters as much as cost savings.

  • Leisure operators, where energy is a significant fixed cost and customer expectations around sustainability is rising.

Decarbonisation is about reducing the carbon emissions your business or organisation generates day-to-day. For most commercial sites, the largest source is the electricity you use. Generating your own clean power, storing it and using it efficiently is the most direct way to reduce your emissions.

No. Some customers come to us with a full plan to achieve net zero and need help delivering it with better energy generation and savings. Others come to us because they want to cut their energy costs or reduce their carbon footprint. Every solution delivered by Cornerstone Group delivers both.

If you have your half-hourly energy consumption data, we can usually complete the initial assessment within a week. If we need to install CT clamp meters to monitor your load this can take around three to four weeks with another week to analyse your data and design the system.

If you have a landlord it doesn’t necessarily prevent you getting solar installed. In some cases your landlord will fund the installation and sell the renewable energy to you as a tenant at a lower rate. If you have a longer lease you may be able to fund the project yourself. Whatever your situation we can find the best solution during your initial consultation.

If your energy efficient equipment is installed properly no. We assess every roof for structural suitability before installing. If the existing roof needs work, our wider Cornerstone Group carries out the roofing element as part of the same project with the cost folded into the same finance package as your solar installation.
