Civil Engineering

Cornerstone Group delivers civil engineering services for property developers, housebuilders, commercial clients and local authorities across the UK. Our experienced team can handle the full scope of enabling and infrastructure works from concept to construction.

Experts in all areas of civil engineering

Our civil engineering expertise covers the full range of groundworks and infrastructure, from the initial preparation of your site through to drainage and highway connections.

  • Groundworks

We manage foundations, floor slabs, substructure construction and all below-ground structural works. Our team coordinates closely with structural engineers when needed and site managers to keep your programme on track.

  • Bulk earthworks

Our team carries out cut and fill operations, bulk excavation, grading and site levelling to create stable development platforms as well as managing spoil removal and materials efficiently to save your budget and timeline. We apply our practical knowledge and experience of ground conditions and drainage behaviour to reduce any risks.

  • Highways and infrastructure

We deliver Section 38 and Section 278 highway works, road construction, kerbing and traffic management, handling all technical and admin requirements to connect your development to public highways.

  • Drainage design and installation

Problems caused by poor drainage planning can be expensive. Civil engineering services include design and install surface water and foul drainage systems including SuDS-compliant solutions and Section 104 sewer adoption that take into account ground conditions and discharge points.

  • Land remediation

If you want to bring a brownfield or contaminated site back into use we’ll assess and treat land, manage the removal of hazardous materials and prepare the site for development in line with environmental standards and planning conditions.

  • Enabling works

We carry out site clearance, demolition support and pre-construction work, including managing diversions of utilities and temporary works.

  • Site development

Our team of civil engineers specialise in site planning, grading, drainage, and erosion control, ensuring that your project is optimised for efficiency while complying with regulations. We take into account factors such as environmental impact, accessibility, and long-term sustainability while delivering personalised site development strategies that meet your project’s specific needs.

  • Structural engineering services

Our structural engineers possess expertise in building codes, materials, and construction techniques. We design robust structures, conduct assessments and retrofits, ensuring the integrity and safety of your buildings and infrastructure.

  • Utilities

We manage all diversions and disconnections of existing utilities along with the installation of new connections across gas, water, electricity and telecoms, working closely with utility providers to keep your programme moving.

  • Car parks

Our team delivers car park construction, surfacing, drainage, line marketing and associated civil infrastructure, keeping your development to a high standard. Our team manages the full scope of external works, coordinating with landscaping and M&E contractors for a smooth handover.

A reputation built on experience

Cornerstone Group has built our reputation over the last 40 years by delivering civil engineering services and schemes on time and within budget across a wide range of sectors and project types.

Our qualified, accredited engineers bring practical knowledge of UK planning and development processes, including experience dealing with Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 requirements, so you don’t have to worry about your programme running into regulatory trouble.

We offer full design and construct services, meaning developers and project managers can work with us from the initial appraisal stage before you buy any assets.

Being able to get involved with your project at this stage means we can advise on your programme budget and planning strategy before you make any decisions that could be costly later on.

We hold Constructiononline and CHAS accreditation, providing independent verification of our health, safety and procurement standards.

Contact us to discuss your project

If you’ve got a project you want to talk about, get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your programme, specification, potential costs and how our civil engineering services could help.

We operate as a civil engineering subcontractor on larger schemes where a principal contractor is already appointed, and we take on principal contractor roles on standalone civil and infrastructure packages. The right arrangement depends on the project structure. We are happy to discuss either route from first enquiry.

We regularly work with developers and project managers at pre-acquisition and pre-planning stage, providing early-stage engineering assessments, feasibility input, and advice on costs. Involving our team before planning is fixed means ground conditions, drainage constraints, and highway requirements can be factored into the scheme design early, rather than becoming costly later.
